East Cape Roosterfish Report - SEP, 19 2025
Location: Los Barriles to Punta Arena
Conditions: September 10–17
Water Temp: 84–86°F
Air Temp: 91–94°F
Tide: Afternoon incoming
Moon Phase: Waxing gibbous
Roosterfish Activity
Roosterfish remain active along East Cape beaches despite rising humidity. Most fish spotted were in the 5–15 lb class, with a few bruisers pushing 30+ lbs seen cruising early mornings and just before dusk. Midday heat slowed activity, but tails in the foam were still visible for sharp eyes.
Beach Conditions
Water clarity held at 10–20 ft, with some scattered sargassum. Moderate surf and gentle southern breezes made most beaches walkable. Best action was tight to the beach on gradual slopes with scattered bait.
Flies & Tactics
Top fly: EP-style baitfish in tan/white and olive/white, size 2/0–3/0.Retrieve: Slow-to-medium strip with erratic pauses.Tip: Roosters were responding best to long, stealthy presentations and low-profile footwork. Avoid false casts when possible.
Intermediate and sink-tip lines both produced, depending on wind chop and bait location.
Other Species
Small jacks provided steady bycatch. Some large ladyfish in the mix—fun on light tackle. Sardina schools were present but spotty.
Final Notes
September remains hot but productive. Bring hydration, UV gear, and a sense of patience. Roosters are around—you just need to read the water, stay mobile, and be ready when that telltale comb breaks the surface.
